14A - Halfway Reflection

1) I have realized that this course does not require much studying, but more of embracing skill sets for the future. Make sure you are taking in what is being taught in every lecture as it may spark a business idea in the future.

2) I have felt like giving up very recently, or actually now. I tend to do a lot of stocks, which is my source of income, and recently it has gone down so much in the last few days due to the coronavirus. I recently want to stop because I have lost around $4,000 this week. Luckily, I have made an okay amount  from stocks that all the money being invested is money I have made. I just started doing it this year after new years eve but now the market is doing terrible. Luckily I am starting to get my money back by usings puts (Puts makes me money when the stock loses value) which is great. I am not stopping learning and grinding just because of a virus and a market crash. I just know my father has told me many times to never let anything get in the way of success and it is true. The market will come back eventually and I always have puts.
3)
One skill is to not let a grade or class determine your future or emotions. What has been done is done.

Second skill is to prioritize what makes you happy.

Third skill that is not really a skill I use is to make goals. Do not simply make the goal in your head saying you are going to it though. What I do is make a goal and spread it around to my friends that I know would motivate me and be like “so how is blah blah going?” and it creates a reminder that it is my goal. Be heard and feel obligated that you need to complete the goal after telling your friends. I want to buy my dad a brand new truck this year for his birthday in April with money I make off stocks but currently it is difficult with how the market is right now. But I have told too many people to give up in my head that I have to manage to find a way to make it possible.

13A- Reading Reflection No.1

  • What surprised you the most? One of the things that has surprised most about Elon musk is always being so unique and finding a way to thrive in terms of Business. For example, he set the standards for electric cars so much higher. This could have completely made no money or created a huge success. He decided to make a cyber truck that looks like nothing on the market Yet, it managed to get a huge amount of pre orders even if the truck does not come out till a few years later.
  • What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? I admire the fact that Elon manages his time by every 5 minutes to maximize his efficiency. He spends dedicated days in Spacex and Tesla to make sure the company operates smoothly. Elon is almost a robot during the weekdays dedicating his time towards work, but on the weekend he still manages to make time for his loving family.
  • What about the entrepreneur did you least admire? I do not see anything really wrong with Elon musk. One of the bad things Elon has done has been hard on his employees by them not being “good enough.” This is something he can tweak by being a little less rough on the employees but then the company would not be moving as quick.
  • Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it? He did. Elon was Luckily able to recover most of his failures by starting again and rebrand the company like Paypal.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?  I see the entrepreneur demonstrated straight hard work. Working over 40 hours a week per company. These companies are not small either, which makes it much more difficult.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you. What kinda confused me is how people like Elon musk are able to manage time so perfectly. I feel I could never rely on my life being controlled every 5 minutes by a calander.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
One question I would ask is how did you create these habits so successfully to be so efficient; yet, have time for your family. This interests me as I would want to be the same in the future.
Another question would be what motivated you to start each business? I ask this because I know sometimes it is hard to do something without motivation.

5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion? His hard work revolves around being efficient himself and everyone around him. This also involves spending a lot time towards the business or project. I feel I would share the same idea too.

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Segment: College Students

Interview One: UF student
Always has trouble getting to class in the morning
If over sleeps, she skips class
Buses are slow due to high traffic
Lives off campus so needs it everyday

Interview two: UF student
He lives on campus
Relies on the bus sometimes
Uses the bus to shorten time between traveling to class and to go to areas far away like the gym
Does not have a car to travel around in (Like most others)

Interview three: Stranger not in College
Uses the bus time to time (To Save Money)
Knows others who uses it too
Believes there can be a quicker way to travel around Gainesville
Does not have a vehicle

Looking into my segments, I have realized that many individuals rely on the bus to get from point A to point B. This is most likely because college students, who are majority of the customers, do not have a car since they live on campus with a dining hall meal plan, who do not need a car. Then there are others who do need the bus and having this type app would help the overall population, not just students.

11A - Idea Napkin No.1

1) Hey, I am Miguel Lucas. I am currently in the process of trying to develop a type of system/app that will allow me to reduce traffic in congested cities like Gainesville, Fl.Trying to create a successful solution for problems like these are not easy. That is why with my skills of successfully seeing the big picture rather than the small would come beneficial. I have currently tried to create different businesses and currently I am doing day trading that requires me to be patient and do an evaluation before investing money into a business or stock. I will take the same actions in trying to expand this business by proceeding the same process in having patience creating an actual product that operates smoothly to attract an audience.I can see this not only affecting mine on a day to day basis, but others too. It will provide us a smoother travel experience to campus and back. While being rewarded for doing so at the same time!
2/3) I am offering a service/app that will allow a big abundance of students to take one type of transportation mostly, thus allowing there to be less traffic on the street. The buses would be able to expedite their travel time since they are not as worried in changing lines last minute and waiting a long line to turn on the light to only be held for another light because the light changed to red. The company will create a type of reward system that will allow there to be an incentive to get a lot of people to take the bus in the first place. This would hopefully be able to create a less chaotic experience by having everyone on board in the beginning.
4) The plan is to offer it to the students first, since they are the majority of the population in the morning traveling. Then it would be offered to other individuals that are on board to be more efficient in their travels. All the customers have a common interest in trying to save time in the morning by not spending most of their day stuck in traffic.
5) Our idea is to not really get money out of the customer directly but more in a way through their value. For example, we are hoping to get enough people to download the app that we can receive ads to put on the app.

I really do feel this is a great idea that can go further than just gainesville. The customer does not really lose anything by using the app, but instead receives benefits. This does prevent us from trying to convince our audience, compared to apps that charge like $0.99 to download. I think this app can go a long way if the right decisions and marketing is made.

10A Elevator Pitch 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCcwAuJJyi8&feature=share

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

  • 19 year old male UF undergraduate student
  • Requires the bus everyday (usually)
  • Uses it only during the weekdays to get to campus
  • Would use their car but it is too much traffic
  • Finds it to be very busy, even on bus
UF professor
  • Brings car to campus
  • Finds it very busy
  • Finds it hard if everyone were to use buses if they wanted to go somewhere right after campus
24 Year old Starbucks worker (Lives in Gainesville)
  • Uses their car to get to work
  • Frustrating to drive during rush hours
  • There are some days she may want to go somewhere after work too! That the bus cannot take her so it would be inconvenient to go back home just for her car
  • 39 Year old Dad (back home in Ocala)
    • Would never use a bus
    • There is not even buses where he lives
    • Riding buses there would be a waste of time as it is not as busy.

  • My 45 Year Old High School running coach
    • The town is pretty small and busy but would not require people to go on buses
    • This would never successful there
    • Inefficient time and resources would be used.

Inside the boundary Outside the Boundary
Most people in are students living off campusPeople who are busy and do not live in Cities
They need this people it would be efficient for the vast amount of people using it The people who not live in cities since it easy to find parking since the town is not as congested.
The need exist to expedite the process of getting from a somewhere to usually campus or work that has a bus stop. This may not be needed since everyone usually has a car that would get them to a destination faster than a bus. Also, some people may be opposed to paying the bus.

8A – Solving The Problem Submit Assignment

My selected opportunity is trying to reduce the amount of traffic within the rush hours of the day (Beginning and Middle).

The way I would like to take this approach is by creating almost like an app/reward pint system that will give an incentive for individuals to ride the bus more often. The reason why this would fix the problem is that now fewer people are likely to be on the road since they have an incentive to ride the bus by being offered like coupons or credit for particular stores. This reduces the amount of traffic on the whole, which makes the buses operate at a faster pace than before due to the fewer cars they have to worry about. We can start off by introducing this to just students first and then adults who rely on the RTS system a lot on UF campus for like Shands and etc.

7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

I would like to choose the idea of reducing the transportation problem in terms of traffic.

The Who: These are for people that live within cities who have to deal with traffic on the daily.
The What: The number of cars that are on the street during the time that causes there to be so many vehicles congested.
The Why: This is because everyone is deciding to take their own car instead of taking public transportation.

Testing the Who: Yes, there are others who are in need of having their transportation being fixed. This is usually anyone who lives in cities of Gainesville where there are a lot of college students, workers in hospitals, and businesses. This can be justified because a lot of people agreed to this that we’re not just college students in the interviews.
Testing the What: The boundaries for this is usually for the beginning of the day to the middle. Usually, there is not much traffic in the late afternoon, thus reducing the need for people to ride public transportation.
Testing the Why: Usually, this is for people that are willing to do this to save time in the middle and beginning of the day if they are promised a better delivery time to get to their desired location. For example, Alachua county should prevent some people from driving around during rush hours to influence their use of public service transportation being offered.

I have found that this is something that is definitely doable but it would require a lot of work says most interviewers. Many people have already adjusted to their routine, which will throw them off if they decided to change themselves and the whole city. The opportunity may not be the best thing to do in the short run, but in the long run it can be effective to help others achieve faster traveling times around the city.

6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

    1. I believe there is an opportunity in this due to there being a lot of trouble with transportation recently. I feel over the last few years traffic has been going up as there is an increase in people owning cars compared to before.
    2. I feel the consumers would be people trying to save time with the hopes of jumping on this idea and others would be willing to join to make it effective. This would reduce there time going to work and everything else.
    3. I feel this might be a little difficult as it would be hard to tell people to not use their vehicles that they might have recently just bought, plus they have more space to travel goods in their cars rather than a bus.
    4. I feel people more than I can see this being a problem as I am a college student who goes through this almost every day.

    1. I believe there can be an opportunity in this by hopefully getting others to believe that this could help the usage of electricity, which reduces the cost of electricity.
    2. The consumers would hopefully be mostly the government/cities by hopefully having them think about saving their environment with this concept.
    3. I think this can be difficult to get people to buy in a sense, but it is a great concept that could go big if enough people create a strong foundation in supporting it.
    4. This may be mostly a small amount of people, which are ones who usually just care about the environment This is just because they try to be as efficient as possible.

    1. I found my regulatory change from https://jvapes.com/state-vape-laws/
    2. I believe there is an opportunity as there now a new age to smoke cigarettes and now this will move a whole new market to vape.
    3. Our main market would be teenagers who are not 21 to buy cigarettes.
    4. It will not be that difficult as many kids are finding this “cool.”
    5. This can be seen by everyone in the world as this is something the whole state has to decide upon and it all comes down to the people’s decisions.

    1. I believe this is a good opportunity just because marijuana has recently been legal there.
    2. Our main market would be to offer it to people who may want it that can legally get it.
    3. It should not be that hard to get customers to come to us if we opened up a cannabis store.
    4. This is another type of situation as vaping. This is voted upon the whole state to decide whether or not it will become legal.
